Velour is an aptly named bar, for it is certainly reminiscent of its namesake.
This very smooth operation has young office workers boogying the night away to retro and commercial dance tunes.
The atmosphere is set by the bold red and blue lighting along the walls and back-lit panels highlighting the front of the bar. Even the artwork seems to have taken a cue from the material of choice, with very smooth, sensual photos strategically hung throughout.
Velour's owners have shown through their other establishment, Fitzroy's Builders' Arms, that they know how to deliver what Melbourne's drinking and dancing crowd want and this two-level establishment continues that tradition.
The lower level is devoted to dancers, while the ground floor hosts a long bar and lounge area. The lounge area is filled with bright L-shaped velour couches for those more inclined to talking than dancing.
