one of my favourites. something different to the usual bar. music not too loud so you can still converse with people without having to revert to shouting.

Horrible place. Dirty. Drinks are made by knowledgeless 19-year-olds. Ladies' toilet is disgusting, and the decor drab.

Great bar!
Cocktails are fantastic here and the bar staff are hot!
Definately recommend this bar as somewhere to start your night off or to go for a few quiet drinks with friends
Toilets are clean too :)

Hahaha... The owner of this bar must be a very smart business man. Let me explain the flaws. If your unaware how the concept of this place works, let me explain. Prices of drinks go up in price the more it is purchased, so other drinks that are starved of purchase go down in price. Simple concept. I heard about this from a friend and was very excited.. only to find the prices for a stubby of beer wouldn't Fluctuate in price any less than about $6.50, and no more than about $9.00. Let's that's right, everything is still way too expensive!! Every now & again the market will crash sending everything low... & everyone goes YAY... followed by an sigh. Well everything is lowER is more like it but everything is still wickedly overpriced at $6.50/7.00/per stubby. I understand stubbies are more expensive than pots... but they keep the money rolling in by not having beer on tap! The Fluctuating of pricings is displayed above the bar. Only problem is when you finally get to the bar after 5 hours because the service is pathetic, you can't see the screen anymore to see what is moving in price. Instead you have to walk back a metre... but you don't want to because you have been in the line way too long & don't want to sacrfice your spot 2nd from the front of the bar! This is a deliberate stroke of genius from the owner who wanted it specifally designed this way so he could say too you when you finally go to order a drink "Oh.. sorry that one just went up in price & is now selling at $9.00/kg. Owned! Before I turn this into a horror novel, some credit must be given to the staff too. I was there 4 weeks ago and noticed American beer was the cheapest at about $7. So i when i finally got to order I asked for a Budweiser. "Sorry we are out of them. We have a similiar tasting beer called Budweshciehre." (or something like that) Well naturally, you would think he had offered me an ALTERNATIVE American beer wouldnt you? Considering people base their purchases on the price fluctuation concept, this would be a fair assumption to make. I handed him a $20 note & got back about $10.50. He had offered me a czech beer which was the most expensive on the market. Yeah nice alternative A$$wipe! Once again, mastermind training skill passed onto the Trader Bar staff from their employer. This joint probably rakes it in.
There is hardly a saving grace for this place except to say the toilets are clean... Now i'm really scraping the bottom of the barrel!!!!

Heard about this place from a friend. Went in on a Frday night, staff were friendly and up for a chat, even had a shot with me! Only disapointment was the food which was a bit av. My girl liked the cocktails and the beer list is pretty good. Worth checking out.

Been once. Good concept. Pretty cool little place, however I think it wouldn't hurt to give it a bit of a make over with some tlc to the girls toilets! Will probably go back. :)

What a great concept! My girlfriend and I really enjoyed ourselves. Great ambience, cruisy tunes, market crashes (all the drink prices go way down) and I loved the cocktails.

I thought this bar sounded like an interesting concept so decided to check it out with my brother while I was visiting him in Melbourne. Perhaps the tone of the visit was set when the bouncer called both of us 'ladies' ( I may be one but my brother is pretty blokey looking). We checked out the prices of the drinks we wanted on the TV screens displaying prices and lined up at the bar. Despite being at the front of the bar queue for five minutes we still hadn't been served. The bar staff were busy all examining a glass that had broken off at the bottom which was obviously a lot more fun than serving customers. When we were finally served I ordered a cocktail. It was made with the requisite wrist flicking and glass flipping. However, I was horrified to see the bartender slicing lemon rind for the garnish with his unwashed, money handling hands. He then proceded to drop the rind into my drink with a flourish of his bandaid covered fingers. Ewww! The cocktail itself was quite pleasant. It was partially tainted by the thought of the bartender's bandaids and the fact that the service took so long cocktail prices had gone up by the time I got to pay for my drink. Before we left I needed to visit the ladies. A good indication of the quality of a bar is the effort they put into maintaining their facilities. I sadly discovered that the Trader Bar was one of those establishments where they only want your money at the bar and aren't interested in customer comfort. The toilets were dirty, had empty glasses and toilet paper on the floor and no paper in the cubicles. My brother and I agreed that this was an extremely low-quality bar experience and neither of us would return there in the future.

The novelty factor wears off very quickly when you get treated poorly by bar staff! Waited at the counter for 15 minutes (no lie) for my first drinks round of the night with the bar staff continually serving either side of me. Left with my group of 8 friends and went somewhere else that was happy to take our money in exchange for some good drinks service. Will never go back to this place.

Great night out.
Went on a Sat. night, the place was busy with some quite stunning ladies in the crowd. definatly a great vibe. And just when the prices were starting to climb up high, the whole market crashed at drinks were cheap. Reccomended

Moronic security staff who throw you out for sitting at a table that some other group made a mess of? Go no further... They'll even make you skul the two beers you just bought. Obviously RSA compliant staffing here

great concept. prices change with the in house stock marker based on how much each drink is being bought. when it's in high demand the price increases and when the drink isn't beng purchased as much the price crashes. also, the entire market could crash in which case you should watch out for the herds of people running to the bar!
