According to the Liquor Licensing Commission, this is the first bar license granted inside a bottle shop (there are others which adjoin a bottle shop) in Victoria. And St Kilda Cellars does not try to disguise that.
Waistcoat and bow-tie wearing staff serve from a long counter in front of typical bottle shop stock. The few wooden tables and chairs in the shop stand directly in front of the counter. The rest of the shop is made up of the bins, racks and fridges that fill bottle shops all over Australia.
The better seating option is outside at umbrella-covered tables in the midst of the ever-entertaining Fitzroy Street.
A deli-style counter serves a range of antipasto-type snacks. A clock telling Sweeny (the previous owner of 40 years) time stands over the bar warding off evil spirits. Its (wrong) time is to be left forever unchanged.
