I have used Softbelly twice for private events - an author talk - and both times it was the most perfect venue of the author's tour. The atmosphere and setup was perfect, the booking process painless, and the staff extremely helpful. Consider Softbelly for any private events or parties you may want to host in Melbourne.

I had my 18th there a couple of months ago and my friends and I loved it! It's hard to find a place that will allow 18th birthday parties but Softbelly was very compromising and helpful... letting me organise & decorate the back room however I wanted. I loved the whole relaxed, intimate atmospher of the place. I don't hesitate in recommending this place to anyone and I'll definitely be going back soon :)

APL is set out quite well though they favor the regulars heaps, should be one set of rules for all. The barman seems nice enough, provided you buy a drink first.

I had my 21st at Softbelly last month, and loved every moment of it. I stressed out a lot in the lead up to the party trying to find a venue, and I'm so glad I ended up with this place. A great vibe, great staff. And above all, its awesome as a place to kick back and chill out. Win, win.

i had my 21st at softbelly, and it was a great venue, really suited what i wanted and it looked great! my friends and i especially loved the super-tall pints of becks and the retro feel of the place. several friends also fell in love with the massage chairs! would definitely and have already recommended it

Saw the last comment and they must have caught Lloyd on a bad night or been rude themselves. Now a regular after having had my 21st there and also go quite often to play poker during the week. The place really looks after the regulars.

Bar staff are good, location great, food is good but owner is rude and quite fake. Seems more concerned about profit and was rude (pushing through people and generally making people feel uncomfortable). Went there for a friends 21st and wont be going back, much better places with cheaper drinks and nicer owners!

Also, much smaller than they say. 120 ppl could not fit comfortably in the front room. More like 60-70.

Pretty average. What gives the right for a place to charge $10 for a pint of Becks!? give me a break! they will lose customers very quickly with those sort of prices! not worth it!

We held a Christmas pary / work function there recently. The service/ food and venue was fantastice. The staff and owner could not have made things simpler in setting up details. Would highly recommend it to those wanting to hold a drinks function

A friend and I had a joint party at Softbelly on Saturday, and we had an absolutely fantastic time! The staff went out of their way to make it the best night we could possibly have. I highly recommend this place for a birthday party, or even just a night out. Go there, you'll love it.

I had my 21st there on friday and it was awesome! the venue is pretty kool its like a funky lounge room. I had my ipod playing so i cant really comment on the music but everyone is pretty friendly and encourage drinking lol so everyone is happy! had a great time :P

Love love love softbelly !- Have never had a bad night there once ! Have been going there for awhile and it always makes you feel good when the staff remember your name when you walk in the door !
The venue is amazing and has a great feel to it and the staff are fantastic - recently had the back room for my 21st bday and the guys there were really accomodating and allowed me to do whatever i liked even setting up my own playlist of songs for the night and preparing a champagne toast for speechs !

I hired Softbelly for my 21st party and had the most amazing night. The staff was friendly, helpful and provided a very friendly, cozy and comfortable venue. The atmosphere was great and everything went off without a hitch. Would definitely recommend this bar/venue to anyone looking for somewhere to host an event. Great bar.

i've only been there once, but it was a pretty decent find. had never been there before or heard of it. its a small kind of place, but there' room near the back for food or jsut hanging around with mates. the drinks are reasonably priced and the mixes are awesome, not watered-down piss-weak ones. the atmosphere was nice, but it closes pretty early. its a good place to get started or wind down after work.

This is an unpretentious, chilled out bar with a lot of personality and amazingly friendly staff. It's hidden away and was a great surprise to stumble on -makes me nostalgic for home (london)! It's the best bar i've been to in Melbourne!
