Try this recipe: Take two shipping containers, throw them in a small car park down an ally, convert one into a bar, fill it with some fine booze, mix that with some crates for seating and see what happens. That’s what the crew down at Section 8 have done and it turns out they’ve got all their flavours spot on.

With an ‘anything goes’ attitude, Section 8 is attracting everyone from suits to students with a good range of booze and a small but versatile selection of beers. The venue is entirely outside, with gas heaters and a new temporary roof protecting the drinking crowd from the harsh Melbourne winter.

While it may only turn out to be a temporary breath of fresh air in the Melbourne bar scene, it is certain that Section 8 will leave a long standing impression on Melbourne bar goers for years to come.

Nice location, special style and good music. The best venue...

Tried to go here one weeknight after dumplings, reasonably quiet as it was only about 7 and the doorman wouldn't let us in because we were wearing ties... what's with that? doesn't conform to their "alternative look" lame!!
Went to rooftop instead. much nicer. better seating, AstroTurf, and an amazing view over the city! definitely worth the 5 flights of stairs!

Love love love section 8!! Nothings better than going to cheap and nasty place down chine town, then walk up tattersalls lane. Great beer, half decent secruity. Great on a hot summers evening, blooody freezing when its cold!! Will be comming here for years to come

definately one of melbourne's best bars.

my only problem is the selectiveness of the door staff when letting in punters.

they always tend to have a "door list" on the weekends, which only seems to cater for a certain type of person. yet, if you have friends inside who can persuade them to let you in, then, suddenly the door list doesnt matter.. hmmmm....

amazing bar, would be better if they weren't so exclusive...

what a gem!!! rug up if it's cold/wet, but good vibes all round. great concept, which is backed up by friendly staff and great music. been here late at night and when it first opens in the morning, so i've seen both ends of it. you'd rather support this than alot of the medicore stuff out there.

Despite being somewhat derivative of a certain Caledonian Lane bar Section 8 is absolutely brilliant.

Ironically it's brilliance is it's downfall, the only downside is it's popularity/ overcrowdedness.

This is one of the few places that actually deserves 5/5 !!! Sure its a car park with some crates, and thats what makes it so great, its not trying to be anything its not.

Hats off to the man that set up the crates. Rug up if it's a cold night too!
