The Railway is a great place to visit in winter, there are 3 open fireplaces and the pub cat is usually lounging in front of the main one - so cool.
The new chef is amazing, and the kitchen always seems busy. We normally go for steak night on Wednesdays, but when we tried to book for dinner last Saturday - they were booked out... but we managed to get a spot at the bar! (-:

Great atmosphere, great food, friendly staff and NO POKIES! This is the best pub in Melbourne. We aren't that local and we've made it our local.

Was out in the beer garden recently, it was a hot day, the drinks were ice cold and the food was just Amazing!! Have also been there for a few functions over the years and I would recommend this place for any function, of any size, as they have a few different spaces depending on the numbers. I will definately be having my next function there, hopefully in the beer garden!! Will also be back during winter when they get the log fires going for a Reds and a Steak!

I visit the Railway, at least, once a week. The food is always awesome and the staff ALWAYS friendly and happy to see you.
I really like the current menu - to me it is way above pub grub and is more akin to high quality restaurant food - but without the excessive prices.
I love what they have done to the courtyard... it looks like a Tiki village and it's huge!
My tip - get down to the Railway ASAP

The Railway is my favourite pub in Melbourne.
The kitchen pumps out some amazing food, I try to get down for one of the $12 specials on Monday to Wednesday, as there such good value.
The DJ's on Friday and Saturday play some great tunes... I just love this place!

The Railway has been my favourite pub for about 4 years. It becomes an extension of your own lounge room - which is what every decent pub should aim to be.
The menu is great, and changes every 3 months. Prices are reasonable (for Sth Melb) $17 to $22 - and are cooked and presented perfectley. If your looking for a parma or bangers and mash - head elsewhere. This is restaurant food at pub price.
If you get a chance - you gotta try The Railway.

Girls love to see me at this place.... the food is great and the barstaff love me... actualy I love myself, nearly as much as I love the Railway - and since Allan got sacked the truffle oil has gone - thank God, now even the food loves me, or do I love the food? Yep!

I am lucky enough to have this pub as my "Local"! A great spot for a quiet drink and game of pool during the week, but goes off every Friday night! There is a DJ both Fridays and Saturdays and a dance floor for some funky moves. Usually a great crowd and a guaranteed good night out!
