Used to be good - went there many times over the years. Now rubbish - only teenagers are welcome there. If you're 30 or over, give it a miss - you won't get in anyway.

Personally i'm not much for the place, but I wanted to mention that my cousins Nick and Chris play there in a band called Sureshock, so that makes it worthwhile for me haha. If you're into funk/soul music definitely check it out.

Great venue I've always checked out some of Melbourne's finest musicians play here and they are kick ass!! You've especially gotta go check out this band called SURESHOCK they perform their own music and mix in a few classic funk, soul and hip hop tracks too! unbelievable... great singing, great vibe and lot's of fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Emerald was my lounge of choice for years and years. From a quiet chat with friends after work, to a few (too many) drinks on a Fri/Sat night while soaking up some of the most pure funk/jazz/trip-hop bands Melbourne's underground has to offer.
Since the first day I set my feet in the door, my band has played countless Thursday and Friday nights and I must warn you, if you're after intimacy, don't plan on showing up after the bands are on the stage hehe
This is my favourite lounge in Melbourne.

visited from syd for a week and one of the highlights from my holiday.No lines to get in, good lighting and comfy lounges to chill out in. Also space to have a spin on the dance floor. LOVED IT !

Nice, and all, but they can't make coffee. Cappuccino arrived as a lukewarm Latte, bitter as anything. Apart from that, a very nice place to have a conversation.

A hidden gem in the CBD. This place is one of the best kept secrets for those in the know. Nothing fancy with the cocktails & staff without attitude...a relief from the many bars ruining people's nights trying to be cool. This place is cool! Well done Purple Emerald.

Top place to get have a few on a Friday. Excellent venue to relax with friends (ie the lounges) and not too crowded.
