One of the seminal live music venues in Melbourne. For years the Punners, with its sticky carpet and less-than-salubrious regulars, has been a springboard for up-and-coming acts and a smaller venue for those who have made it. With at least one band every night of the week - usually more like three - for a variable cover charge, there is always entertainment here.
Although many would argue that the front bar, where it's always free to enter as there's no view of the band, provides equal entertainment with its bunch of regular characters. While live music still dominates, DJs take over on Saturday nights, once the bands have finished, and the floor that saw many a mosh pit in the early '90s becomes a surging dance floor.
sick dog - 06/12/07 who wants to see a band with like 78 big ass poles in the way of the stage? this is one of the worst places ever! the bands that play here suck 0/5 tony - 16/04/06 this place was sold for cheap food and try hard tossers that want to be seen, a total shame. 5/5
