Provincial Hotel
299 Brunswick St, Fitzroy

Invite Friends to this bar:
One of the largest and most diverse venues in this precinct, the Provincial has put an indelible stamp on the area.
The bar area, on the corner of Johnston and Brunswick, is furnished with comfy couches. The second room, down Johnston Street, has an extraordinarily eclectic decor. One wall is decorated with Indian movie posters, a column is covered in framed photos and red Chinese lanterns hang along the front window. A glass-roofed courtyard has full restaurant service to metal tables and chairs which sit upon a large mosaic-tiled floor.
Not content with packing people in at night, the management has tried hard to make the Provincial a part of the local culture.
During the Comedy Festival it sponsors a short film festival and the annual Provincial calendar (made up of photos selected from a competition among local photographers) has become regular event.

sean - 22/04/09 Had a good time here a while back, but the crowd now is bordering on scary. It's easy to get into, cheap and I like the free flowing water:) But too many dodgy geezers and mutton/lamb for me (and I'm no spring chicken!) 2/5 sam - 22/11/08 all u'll find here is old people with filthy intentions
one of worst club on johnston street 1/5 mad - 02/08/06 The Provincial lacks the soul and charm of it's former years- so much so, that you could probably franchise it across the good ole' U.S of A. Don't be fooled by it's external walls. This pub is clincial and feels out of kilter with the other bars and pubs in the area. Disappointing, especially given it's location and it's local history. 2/5 harmison - 27/06/06 older crowd 24+ music isnt anything special and regular fights....cheap drinks is probly the only plus 2/5 28/10/05 get real - this pub is a discrace to fitzroy... locals donot drink here - its a tourist pub... 0/5 jason - 27/10/05 one of the best bars in fitzroy in its own style, which offers a lot, including $3 drinks, $4 pizza on thursday nights in the back bar, a comfortable and inviting bar to drink in during the week, and a dj for friday and saturday nights, and you can't forget the restaraunt and it's fantastic choice of food. One last thing the
bar staff and cafe' staff are very pleasant 5/5 Jaime - 02/10/05 A good break from clubbing, funky little bar area at the front where you can talk and a dancing area at the back, music is not too commercial but still OK to dance to. Some nice shots but be careful, my chartreuse lit me on fire when I was there! Worth a try. 4/5 Lesley - 16/09/05 Great wood oven pizza's in the adjoining restaurant. 4/5 06/09/05 5/5
