Part of the Gordon Place complex of serviced apartments, this bar's most notable feature is its historic architecture. Built by a Melburnian philanthropist last century, this was Melbourne's first apartment complex.

The dining area, which is open to bar patrons, looks over a courtyard that has stood for over 100 years. Now sheltered by a glass roof, the colonial brick style is a nice relief from the white and metal design that dominates the interior of many modern bars. The white clothed tables are waited upon from a small bar in an area that is very well lit.

About half the clientele comes from the apartments above, but many surrounding work places have their lunch here.

For period architecture and a quiet atmosphere, this is the Place.
