One of the older pubs in Melbourne, the Oxford Scholar has recently undergone a revitalisation. Gone is the well-stained carpet and well-worn facade. In their place is a new bright, airy feel inside and a fresh exterior.
While the clientele is still largely students from RMIT University across the road, local office workers have also discovered the atmosphere generated by 112 years of history.
The large windows, earthy tones and polished redwood furniture give the interior clean, smooth lines while the staff help generate a fun, almost raucous, atmosphere. In fact, half the time the bar staff seem to be having as much fun as the patrons.
Due to its reliance on uni student custom, the Oxford specialises in functions on weekends. During the week, it is pretty busy from lunch time onwards when patrons start with a meal and let the afternoon take care of itself.
BlastbeatentoHell - 26/05/08 If you have the $10 jug uni student discount, this is a great place! Haha a few lectures have been skipped to take advantage of that discount... otherwise, nothing special, just a pub. Pretty relaxed, nothing crazy. 3/5 Just Cruisin - 18/04/08 Cheap and cheerful, with loads of space but could someone inject some kind of character to the place? 2/5 bobby - 28/03/07 top uni bar has james squire on tap...what more do you need people? 3/5 Liz - 08/02/06
