A strong contender for the best view in Melbourne. Perched on the corner of Fitzroy Street and the Esplanade the floor-to-ceiling windows soak up the bay. Sadly for bar patrons, the best view is from the formal restaurant upstairs. The view from the first floor balcony is breathtaking, but it's strictly for dining.
Downstairs has a more relaxed ambience, with one wall taken up by logs ready for the fireplace (which, in keeping with the modern, glass and chrome design is surrounded by glass panels).
As well as a full menu, the kitchen also does a range of antipasto-type snacks. The wine list is especially good: it features both museum and personal cellar lists and covers all budgets. The fortified section is of equal quality and includes Hennesy Paradis cognac.
A large proportion of the customers are tourists, especially during the summer months, but it is also popular for local business lunches.
