While keeping its traditional exterior, the Metropolitan's management has worked wonders inside. The decor, with its emphasis on stone work and smooth lines, is as clean as any bar.
The outside walls are made of stone up to the large windows that let in plenty of natural light. The bar itself is fronted with backlit faux-stone panels.
The regular patrons are mainly nearby-workers and the staff do a good imitation of Cheers, in that they try to make sure everybody knows your name.
The ground level bar spills down to a kitchen that has an igloo-shaped wood-fired pizza oven extending into the bar.
The large, pub-style bar downstairs prides itself on its wine list, although it also offers a range of exotic and unusual spirits including both chilli and rhubarb vodka.
On the second floor is a bar that services tables for larger parties and couches in front of a fireplace for more intimate groupings.
