A huge, open space, run by the people who looked after Johnston Street's Rochester Castle Hotel for a long time, Mayfields offers laid-back or funky live music most nights of the week.

The oval-shaped bar sits in the centre of the open-plan room, separating the more loungey space at the front from the dance floor/band area at the back.

At the very back, past the kitchen which serves food for most of the day and night (including breakfast from 7am on weekends), stands a lone pool table.

The front area has candle-lit tables looking outwards and one large couch looking inwards. Fluorescent lanterns give the lighting an ethereal quality, while the monkey in a swing over the bar is just bizarre.
