A former manchester factory, Manchester Lane was as meticulously planned and finished as any fabric produced in its past; a demonstration of confluent design on a grand scale.
From the restaurant area at the front through the open plan kitchen to the bar area at the back, all design elements have an air of continuity, down to the color of the tiles matching the overhanging lightshades.
The polished pine floorboards and custom-made furniture give the space a clean, bright appearance without feeling sterile.
The bar area has amphitheatre-style seating arranged around a grand piano that often plays host to a jazz ensemble. The neat, rectangular bar is on street level, accessible either down an alley off Flinders Lane or through the restaurant. There are plenty of stools and benches around the bar, while the seating around the jazz band is couches and armchairs, each lit by its own red lamp, making Manchester Lane very conducive for conversation. In summer, the bar spills onto the adjoining laneway.
