It seems typical of Australia that several pubs, the Imperial's one of them, in the CBD have been operating longer than the state parliament.
Although not noted for regular pollie sightings, the Imperial is hugely popular with local office workers (on Friday nights they have to fence off the footpath as a temporary beer garden to accommodate the crowds).
The traditional pub interior is open and sparsely furnished for the same reason, although the dining area has a range of tables.
It is hardly surprising that walls are decorated with the faces of those who have served the Victorian public from across the road. Again, it seems typical of Australian egalitarianism that the politicians are represented by caricatures. You wouldn't want them getting a big head if they popped in for an ale.
Susanna - 04/05/07 Cheap drinks especially during happy hour - $3 champagnes which were quite nice. The place has a genuine pub feel about it - a big after work crowd on Friday nights but no really yuppies. Head here if you want a down to earth pub with a mixture of ages and friendly staff. 3/5 Sarah - 10/10/06 I don't know what Terry is talking about! This is a great venue, with friendly staff and management and the prices are no different to anywhere else in the city centre (the bars around the corner are twice the price!). Great night out, great food, great music, all around fantastic time. I will definately go back! 5/5 Terry - 08/10/06 This place is a dump!! Over priced, long waits and the managers a wanker. I feel sorry for the other staff. Never again!!! 0/5
