Although listed as Collins Street, it's actually down an alley way (the Italy 1 sign opposite is easier to see from Collins Street).
Entering off the street level, you head down stairs past an old water vessel-cum-umbrella stand to the bar area.
In this split-level establishment, the bar area is like a stylish Italian trattoria, with jars of pickled vegetables scattered around and chillies and garlic drying outside the kitchen.
Downstairs is a more formal restaurant section, also pricier, with linen tablecloths.
The bar area serves a range of Italian food as well and does a nice line in wines by the glass with over 20 on offer.
Always busy, it is packed with office workers on Thursday and Friday nights.
Il Solito Posto provides a range of reading material including design magazines and a bookshelf of second-hand books located in the passageway to the dining area.
