Hydra is nothing like its fabled namesake. Whereas the beast Hercules slew had a multitude of heads, Hydra the bar has a myriad of plastic chairs and wooden tables.
In this bar, the only thing that will replenish itself after being polished off is your drink.
Located in a back basement tucked away in an alleyway opposite the Rialto, Hydra is a big, open space around a large open-plan kitchen.
Despite the location precluding direct sunlight, large windows let in as much natural light as possible. Large lightshades keep the interior well-lit, especially the rotating art exhibitions that decorate the high white walls.
Hydra draws office workers from nearby buildings and packs them in for its happy hour (5.30-6.30). It is usually closed by early evening and on weekends.
