If you are looking to find one bar that represents the recent trend in Melbourne's bars, Hells Kitchen is an excellent example.
Let's look at the criteria: is it hidden down an alley (preferably difficult to find once in the alley)? Check. Hell's Kitchen is down an alleyway off Flinders Lane, and located upstairs entered through an anonymous-looking door. Is there a range of quality drinks? Check. The wines have been especially chosen from boutique vineyards and the range of spirits is superb (" you won't find any Midori here" the management told me). Is there a DJ spinning discs? Check. What are we missing? Of course, a reference to New York. A big check.
It's named after the legendary New York precinct. Building on the success of the street level establishment below, lunch is served at Hell's Kitchen through the day and light dinner is available at night.
mad - 02/08/06 Hells Kitchen is an awesome place in any decade of eternity! Try their home-made chilli-infused vodka... it is to die for!!! The guys behind the bar are really friendly and the place has a great earthy feel. Even a saintly square bloke like me struck up a great conversation with the gothic girls and alternative guys. Clearly one of Melbourne's top 10... the devil never had it sooooo gooooood!!!
5/5 Miles - 05/06/05 Great place just to drop in, relax with a coffee or a few drinks, and share some laughs with good friends. 4/5
