Enormously popular among locals, the Gypsy Bar has built up a reputation doing what is does very well - its martinis are renowned, as is the marinara sauce.
The clientele is mainly Fitzroy residents. The small space quickly fills up on weekends, although if you're happy to sit at the bar or along the window, you can usually find a seat.
The black bar takes up nearly half of the space, with a green neon decorated Faema coffee machine taking pride of place at the front.
Gypsy Bar sports a wide variety of boutique drinks including an extensive range of digestives such as grappa.
Meals are served until 11pm; bar snacks are available until closing.
Although the name's heritage has been lost in the mists of time, those who have enjoyed a late night drink here don't forget the place.
Brian - 04/02/10 The Gypsy bar now has live music about 4 days a week, eftpos and Quantas flying points. The menu is in a transition so there are great special new tapas as the menu is expanding.
