You have to know what you're looking for when you go the Grosvenor. Located in a basement off an undistinguished lane, keep an eye out for the sign or else you're likely to walk straight past it.
After walking down the stairs, you have the choice of turning left or right. To the right is an area akin to the front bar of a pub. There's pool tables and the furniture is more suitable for leaning than sitting. To the left is a more comfortable area that doubles as the dining room when the kitchen's operating.
The kitchen serves lunch five days a week and the long tables means they can cater for large groups.
The management of this polished timber and brass bar are fond of saying "we don't keep the best beer in Melbourne - we serve it". That's pretty indicative of the Grosvenor's straightforward, laid-back milieu.
