Definitely a city worker-oriented bar/cafe, Gordon's Cafe is a family-run business that sticks to office hours.
While during summer, it stays open later (until nine or 10pm) on Fridays, the owners' commitment to their families means they have no desire to martyr themselves on the hospitality cross. This means most days it's closed by six. However, for a lunchtime or mid-afternoon drink and bite to eat there's no more convivial bar.
The home-made lasagne and gourmet pizzas are particularly recommended; they have regulars coming back for lunch practically every day. In summer, the lane becomes a part of the bar.
Patrons crowd in along a ledge on the front window, looking in on the rest of the clientele. The house cleanskin wine is the drink of choice with most of the regulars.
