The management is turning this terrace building into a food and drink complex that makes the most of the available space.
The bar is the late-night option, secreted down an alley off Chapel Street, behind the streetfront Globe Cafe and beneath two function rooms. You enter through a blue vinyl padded door and almost step right into the bar. Your way past the bar is lighted by an internally illuminated globe. The rest of the lighting is soft and the barred windows looking on to the dull lane let in little light. Rectangular red and green lights keep the atmosphere intimate while the large armchairs make sure the clientele is comfortable.
Definitely one for the night owls, Globe Bar doesn't open until the working day has ground to a halt and never gets too hectic, unlike many places on Chapel Street.
Meals can be ordered from the same kitchen that serves the rest of the Globe establishment.
Becx - 20/04/09 Very disappointed. After waiting for what seemed like forever Globe has turned into another beige restaurant.
I miss Janet Jackson on a Sunday morning. And the best staff.
I also had the Chocolate ripple cake for my wedding and now it had disappeared. I wish I had asked for the recipe.
Boo Hoo!!!
Wont bother going back now. 2/5 chapel_owl - 10/02/09 Finally Re-opened after a change of Management
** GLOBE **
Long gone is the famous Chocolate Ripple Cake, with new Chefs and new menu's Globe has undergone a serious facelife.
The secret little Sapphire Bar from the side alley is transformed into more seating for diners.
Still bustling with a funky atmosphere for breakfast however dinner is a refined and slightly pretentious affair. 3/5 oldskool - 26/11/08 great grub, great location and great people. thumbs up for globe! 4/5
