As discreet as its name is ambiguous, Double O bar does not advertise itself. Tucked away down an alleyway off an alley way, the only indication that the door in the wall is a bar is a small sign at the alley's entrance and two concentric circles projected on to the alley wall.
Like some secret rendezvous, the bar with its brown vinyl covered walls is found at the end of a short corridor entered through an innocuous looking door.
The interior keeps that air of mystery with the seating spread throughout the two rooms' nooks and crannies, whether under staircases or behind beaded curtains. The subdued lighting comes mainly from lampshades hung low over tables or tucked away in ledges cut out of the brick walls.
While the second room acts as a smallish dance floor, the first room is usually jammed with punters enjoying a drink, watching the tropical fish by the bar ... or are they planning midnight espionage?
bbopp - 16/05/10 I used to go there about 8 years ago and it was the place to be...unsure of what it would be like now? 4/5 Steven - 20/04/09 The steel bars on the front makes you feel like your in a sex slave dungeon. Ive never been the same since.... 0/5 ArtZ - 18/08/06 Im not even sure if this place is even open anymore....if it is...it should be closed and considered a relic of Melbournes laneway bars.
