Ding Dong can proudly boast as being the sister to the famous New York bar of the same name as well as now being one of Melbourne’s best rock venues.
A well laid out area with quick access to the bar, seating down the side of the room and a good-sized dance floor below the stage. Each night Ding Dong is open they present an array of local or international bands and have quite the history of big acts. Free entry after the bands have finished (around 12am) with DJ’s that continue the alternative vibe playing vintage and contemporary rock that is guaranteed to get you dancing on the stage.
With a new license until 7am on Friday and Saturday nights this bar is a must visit for those who love their live music and rock and roll.
Buster - 25/05/10 A homophobic venue run by rude rednecks and uneducated assholes. Thanks for ruining our night by kicking our gay sober friend out for being drunk (ridiculous) and encouraging a 1950's hatred of gays. We'll be telling all of our friends. 0/5 Dani - 15/07/08 Great bands, great bartenders, great crowd (usually), great atmosphere.
Definitely one of the better small live venues in the city. 4/5 Justin - 18/10/07 This is an excellent small cosy-style pub.
I am surprised at how big profile the bands are here (both australian & international) considering the size & location of this terrfic place - Reasonable size in a small hidden lane just around the corner from the Metro. Doesn't get massive shoulder to shoulder crowds. Good place to get started and lay back. Music & bands are definately it's best feature! 4/5 Ben - 27/04/07 Ding Dong is an awesome rock'n roll bar, ive seen some of melbournes best rock the stage there. Keep up the good work ding dong!! ohhh, and not to mention the bar staff are hottttt!! .\m/ 5/5 Claire - 18/04/07 ding dong is great for a dance on Friday night, good music and great bands 4/5 ArtZ - 19/08/06 Scene & Herd....
Only if your one of the indie sheep....otherwise, its a hole. 2/5 Izz - 17/01/06 Has some awesome nights and the crowd seem to be pretty OK. But the place has NO ventilation and is usually stinking hot and *really* smokey (even for this smoker!)
My friends and I went to Weekender here and despite the great music and paying entry we left after an hour it was unbearable.
Have been back (once!) and they had fans on but it still wasn't great 3/5 Remus - 07/12/05 Hot waitresses, great bands, ms pac-man and the relatively lack of pretentious hipsters make this one of the best small live gig venues in melbourne. 5/5 07/10/05
