A live venue that boomed with the grunge scene, only to lose its way a little in the mid-'90s .

Thankfully, the current management has returned the Corner to its position as one of Melbourne's best mid-sized venues.

The band room, which can be divided in half with a curtain for smaller gigs, is one of the biggest you'll find in any Melbourne pub. As such, it draws the bigger local acts and many touring bands (the day a Sonia Dada concert caused a line around the block is permanently burnt in my memory).

The front bar is typical of funky pubs around Melbourne. Immediately to your right as you enter off Swan Street, is a lounge section filled with recycled couches and armchairs, while the dark sticky-carpeted bar area is further up the back.

went to the corner on Saturday night and was very disappointed with the treatment of people trying to get inside. those people with tickets were forced to line up and weren't allowed in till dappled started. very disappointing, very cold!!!! this seemed unnecessary. will reconsider gigs there in the future!

I have recently gone back to the corner to see urge overkill and I was not dissapointed. It was exactly how I remembered it!! Awesome. I think it could be the best band venue in melb cause it is small enough for you to get close to the band. The drinks are quite pricey though, bummer.

Oh the corner. theyve done up the roof top bar for collar up pink polo t shirters, but the downstairs remains as legendary and grungey as the crowd does diverse. Rock.

This is definitely a must visit for any type of gig, from metal to rock to hip hop. The place goes bananas. The only thing that is a major dissapointment in such a great place is the fact pots are smaller than normal pots and bottles of booze are overpriced.
