One of the homeliest bars in the sometimes impersonal Fitzroy Street scene.

The open activity of the kitchen and simple furnishings help to generate a comfortable feel. But, more likely, it's the slow pace of the customers. In a late afternoon, local residents really don't seem to hurry through their glass of wine or bottle of beer (often taken with breakfast: it's served until 5pm).

Its ambience changes with the seasons. In summer, the doors peel back to create an open-air feel. Outside tables flow into the courtyard between Cafe 97 and the neighboring bookshop. In winter, the doors close up but, thanks to the high proportion of glass, it still catches the late afternoon sun.
