While the name conjures up images of unimaginative English pubs, this is about as traditional Australian as you'll find.

Run by ex-jockey Gary Willett, this pub offers three levels of traditional entertainment and service. The front, street level bar is a testament to Willett's success. His silks hang on the wall next to photos of his winning rides. He was very successful especially when riding for legendary trainer Bob Hoystead.

The second level has a buffet-style food preparation area around longer tables in a big, open space. Lunch is served here five days a week, but by mid-afternoon the kitchen is shut.

Deep down in the basement, the third area is dominated by pool tables and pinnies. This section also has its own bar, although the seating is pretty much limited to stools.

Everytime I'm back in Melbourne i go to this bar!!!!! It's the BEST, the staff are all so friendly, The menu is all new and it's awesome as well, and the chefs a bit of a hottie! They have a pool comp on Wednesday night and I didn’t do too badly! I’m definitely going back to this place, plus the drink prices are cheaper than anywhere else around that area in the city!

The Bull and Bear Tavern does have eftpos. Is now owned by Brian Wilken. He managed it for the last 8 years. Great PUB meals. Fantastic steaks at very reasonable prices. Available for functions. Bucks parties and Rawpocker are very popular. I forgot to rate it but it is fair to say that as it has only been under new ownership for the last few months, the pub is still developing. Try it, it has a very friendly atmosphere and you will not be disappointed.

Not run by Gary willet anymore!! Is slightly less horsie...:0 has happy hour on fridays-5-7pm in the bottom bar: $2.50 Pots, $3.50 Basic spirits. Upstairs bar has a piano/guitar man and $2.50 Champage!! Great for after work drinks...
