danny - 16/10/10 I forgot, wheelchair access to lower level 4/5 Danny - 16/10/10 Great place, great food. Best beer garden in Melb. Just another comment, if you get thrown out out of a place you have usually asked for it. 4/5 Rob Miller - 31/05/10 I liked your site 0/5 mat - 30/03/09 lol most of the bouncers are non aussie looking anyway, why would they be discriminating non Australian's? 3/5 Danny - 25/03/09 Recently, a group of friends and I attended Bridie O'Reilly's for a friend's hen’s night. One of the girls, after first clearing it with one of the members of security, asked a random guy to take off his shirt and flex his muscles. This was the dare that was on her dare card that everyone had been given at the start of the night. When he took his shirt off, the same security guard pounced and proceeded to evict him. We tried to reason with security but they would not have a bar of it so we then spoke to the manager. He spoke to us with disdain and treated us like we were stupid. He insisted the gentleman was thrown out of the pub because he was inebriated, however, the manager did not even see the gentleman in question. The gentleman was not causing any sort of fuss and was not displaying any outward signs of intoxication and did not even put up a fight, apart from also trying to reason with security. The manager just used this as an excuse when clearly the real reason was the taking off of his top, which was just a little bit of fun. When discussing the issue with the manager, he belittled the fact that some of us were teachers and said there was no way we would know whether he was drunk or not.
The bar staff were also quite rude. One in particular kept pushing past rudely without saying excuse me, so after a while of this going on, we decided to stand our ground. At one point after my friend had knocked into me causing me to accidentally knock into him, the bartender turned around, threateningly pointing his finger in my face and abused me, calling me a bitch and threatening to kick me out. This was not only completely unprofessional but a complete overreaction. Interestingly, after this he did not push past again. He instead chose to wait politely as he should have done initially.
Prior to entering Bridie’s we watched people going in. If you were not from Australia (therefore had non-Australian identification) the bouncers proceeded to ask how many drinks had been consumed and in most situations did not let these people in. I found this place to be highly discriminatory and numerous staff members acted completely inappropriately. I would never go back. I strongly urge others to boycott and go to much friendlier places down Chapel St or in the city.
0/5 John - 23/03/09 Have beento Bridies on a number of occasions and enjoyed a few drinks, some music and friendly conversation. However on Saturday night 21/03/03 I was forcefully removed and insulted bybsecurity and staff. Must have done something wrong, you may think. Well , after a full drink had been removed by staff I was attempting to discuss the matter with bar staff. At this point security arrived and as they say; the rest is history. After being forcefully removed (whilst offering no resistance) I queried as to why I was removed seing as I had not been intoxicated or violent in any way shape or form. My request for reason was provided;and I quote "YOU'RE A FU#*)^G 'C'-word" I was informed. I can now say that I can highly recommend Bridie O'Reilly's to anybody looking for the experience of being forcefully manhandled out of a venue and verbally insulted by staff. 4/5 Steve - 05/02/09 Great night Thursday nights, great music from Acoustic duo, Funny! All staff friendly and just plain old good times. I go with a group of 5-10 every week. 5/5 Theresa - 08/08/08 A good if predictable place to start off the night. I usually wind up here when I'm down Chapel st and you can always expect the same music and same sorts of people, which is good or bad depending on how you want to look at it. A pretty good place to relax 3/5 James - 22/07/07 Nice place.... good fun... 4/5 Andrew - 07/07/07 Great place. mid 20's kinda pub that has a nice feel. Been there a couple of times. I dont know what John ^ is talking about but the bouncers are alright although they are nothing special. Great service and a essential for St Pat's Day 3/5 John Griffiin - 07/07/07 I enjoyed an evening in the Bridie OReilly pub on Chapel St (on the night of 06/07/07).I spent the night watching an enjoyable game of AFL (Essington v Geelong, 06/07/07), and had enjoyed the bar of Bridie OReillys (on at least two prior occassions also) but found myself beyond surprised to be manhandled from the premises (having finished my drink, I was at this stage, leaving the bar {Bridie Grady's) which resulted in my being kicked, and forced down stairs - whereupon I fell and struck my head - and thrown outside the premises. A member of the bouncer staff did check my head (after I'd struck it against a table) within the premises but a bouncer (named Dennis aka Denny)encouragrd and assisted at least two other bouncers to enforce me from the premises despite my quests for medical attention, and KICKED me. I also requested a video tape of the incident but I was met with little assistance. This bar seems a really nice bar but on this occassion the Staff seemed threatening rather than helpful (Within minutes of serving drinks the staff requested last orders, only to turn threatening, and physical). I would not advise that anyone visit this bar. 0/5 Brent - 19/12/06 Great nite out.... awesome band on Saturday they go off 5/5
