Inspired by the creativity of local residents, Blue Velvet's management has made the bar a "creative showcase".
The walls are offered to local artists as hanging space and films made by RMIT, Melbourne, Monash and Swinburne University students are regularly shown here. The bar has recently been revamped and extended (06'), and the back room is a dedicated gallery with full IT-networked infrastructure...so all forms of multimedia and net-connected artforms can be catered for.
Blue Velvet has two fully stocked bars. The main bar on the ground floor has tap beer as well as an extensive range of boutique beers. They have an extensive wine list sourced from some of the best wineries in Australia, New Zealand, France and Italy. A full selection of cocktails are also available from either bar. On Level 2, there is the nightclub space with dancefloor and another bar.
The VIP Room is a couch-filled alcove hidden behind a beaded curtain.
Blue Velvet has a new multimedia gallery extension called - artbyte gallery. This space doubles as a lounge and is non-smoking. The artbyte gallery space can be hired for functions (80people) and also hides their exclusive VIP room (seating 12). The entire venue including the upstairs nightclub (120people) and fully stocked bar can also be hired for exhibitions, performances, product launches, or for a variety of functions, including buck's and hen's night's.
On Level 2, Blue Velvet has a state of the art sound system and DJ booth with CD-turntables, mixers, classic turntables and laser lighting console. The dancefloor also has it's own bar and can be hired for functions.
Perhaps the last word should go to the owners who were inspired by the arthouse film of the same name because it was "not what you expected but ended well" - just what you want from a good night out.

0/5 emerald - 28/07/10 check it out last friday - small venue but awesome atmosphere and great goth crowd! don't know why it's not massive....weird 5/5 barry - 19/07/10 This place is an absolute joke. They charged us $6 for a pot of coke (yes you heard that right), and the barmaid is a psychopath that was threatening my partner even though my partner had not even looked at or talked to her. Seriously unbalanced! plus the karaoke they had there was an absolute joke. Avoid this place for a function at all costs! 0/5 Darren - 23/06/10 Looks like Heresy on Fridays is going to be great! Melbourne needs a good goth night 4/5 Mixmaster Jay - 09/10/06 Melbourne's best kept secret. A great selection of overseas drinks, nice crowd and nice bar staff.
