Although a long way removed from its original inception 23 years ago, the Blackcat revamp in 2002 has brought it back to the youth of the inner city.
The Blackcat is a place where anyone feels welcome. Its staff, and the vibes of its classically Melbournian ‘Shabby Chic’ interior, make you feel instantly at home, which may be part of the reason why the Cat is argued as one of the ‘Last Stands’ of the old school alternative Brunswick St scene.
A fusion between daytime café and nighttime bar, Blackcat is an incredibly versatile space capable of catering to all kinds of cats. In any one day you can find all walks of life hanging out, from the most alternative of styles to the more conservative, the Blackcat embraces them all.
The Blackcat’s strive to not conform to the more impersonal styles of the more generic Melbourne bars most definitely results in a space you will want to come back to time and again.
