Invite Friends to this bar:
Established in 1993, Big Mouth is an institution in itself, and it is often referred to as one of St Kilda’s
many icons. Set in St Kilda's finest double storey Art Deco building in the heart of St Kilda.
A Wine Bar & Café on ground level, Lounge Bar and Dining Room 2nd level.
With a well earned reputation for food, wine and entertainment, Big Mouth St Kilda is unique, versatile and very popular. The space is as eclectic as its clientele, a mix of creatives, suits, tourists and St Kilda locals.
This ever popular place is open 7 days a week to eat, drink, dance or just hang about.
The Lounge Bar does what a bar should do good local bar culture, cold beer and a great wine list. A super sexy room with 300 degree windows boasting the best view of St Kilda. Couches and cushions, great music and food make this bar St Kilda’s favourite watering hole. On the weekend, don’t expect to exit until the early hours of the morning, the Dj’s that play from Friday to Sunday, simply wont allow you
to leave the dance floor
The detailed and elegant Dining Room sits to the side of the main Lounge Bar. Big Mouth's food is generous and clean. Fused Australian with a soft French influence simple in its approach.
The Wine Bar and Cafe on Acland Street again has 300 degree views of St Kilda: Big folding windows, out door seating, palm trees and the sea breeze. Owned by the consortium that runs Vis and Lounge in the CBD, Big Mouth opens itself to all aspects of drinking and dining

Anna - 12/11/09 This place is really good, it has a nice, well dressed crowd without being overly pretentious (not airheads who blow all their wages on clothing), and GREAT music on Friday and Saturday nights. They have a dancefloor upstairs and no cover charge (but it's better than most venues you have to pay to get into!). The bouncers are generally really nice and friendly (not cocky, arrogant or thugs). They arn't too discriminating with who they let in, so if you don't dress in $1000 outfits, they'll still let you in (without giving you the "only VIP" or "gueslist" excuse). But it is best if you make an effort to dress up, otherwise you will detract from the atmosphere. Most of the crowd is youngish and trendy. The atmosphere is warm, welcoming and stylish, with lots of couches and cushions to sit on. Definitely worth a visit. 4/5 st kilda bar owner - 25/02/08 I am a St Kilda local and business owner and I am tired of reading negative reviews from so called St Kilda loyalists??
I don't know why inflation is such a hard concept for customers to comprehend? Bar prices rise when the price of buying the grog rises. It is as simple as that. If you want to pay bottom of the barrel for your drinks then go to a crappy pub and don't complain. If you are going to drink in St Kilda in its top locations and at some of its biggest local icons the prices will reflect the environment you are in!
You want to complain go to airport west I'm sure you will find plenty to complain about... 5/5 Jane - 31/10/07 As a St Kilda local I reckon Big Mouth is changing for the better. The wine list is excellent, the portions are great, although you pay for that.
The vibe on a Thursday night or Sunday afternoon feel like what it used to mean to live in St Kilda.
Keep it up Big Mouth - you'll get there. 3/5 ArtZ - 18/08/06 Referb or not, this place was, is, and always will be just awful.
Some of the rudest staff in Melbourne.
Floor staff are assholes, and the seecurity are thugs.
This is not just my opion, it is a well known fact by most of the bar / cafe going public.
This place simply needs to be closed down as it is a blight on Melbournes bar scene. 0/5 Steve - 30/10/05 Big Mouth - I have to say things are looking better after the referb, but the service and prices are much worse. I just popped in for a beer and to read the paper only to find my chilled hang out had changed. An Asahi beer (glass, not pint) was $6.50, which is more than it used to be. What really got my attention was the 'gang' of new security personnel who I noticed grab a guy and forcefully eject him into the rain outside for kissing his girlfriend. These bouncers were looking for a fight and dressed like American gansters, not what I expected at all! I hope my local chills out again and they thing about hiring some staff who stop trouble and don't cause it. 3/5 Andygee - 05/10/05 Bigmouth (upstairs) has renovated in the last couple of weeks (since begining of september 2005). It now looks a lot classier with a kind of black and red 'gothic' theme and the menu has changed so the meals are smaller and more expensive..shame....lounges are still comfy though... 2/5
