One of Melbourne's premier jazz venues, Bennetts Lane is also a cosy little bar.
A small space, on the busier nights the patrons crowd into every available space: they even sit on the stairs leading to the loft.
All this to see some of the finest jazz musicians going around. In fact, it's hard to imagine Melbourne's jazz scene without Bennetts Lane, the perfect venue to truly appreciate musicianship. As tables and chairs take up much of the space, it fills very quickly but means everyone has a great view.
Because this bar is run by jazz aficionados for jazz aficionados, talking during the performance is severely frowned upon, however there is little other snobbery here.
In the past, Bennetts Lane has been the site of some amazing post-gig jams by touring artists following their Concert Hall shows. The obligatory cover charge usually won't get you much change from a tenner.

5/5 Artz - 15/08/06 Still is, and will always be, the home of Jazz in the city. A great place to kickback with a cool drink and hot tunes. 4/5 mad - 02/08/06 You only go to this place for one thing- the jazz! Drinks are pricey, but when you hear those sleek, sexy sounds coming from the stage... who cares?? 4/5 Stevez - 29/10/05 Great for a night out, bit pricey to see a band but jazz-lovers won't mind. Crowd a bit older than most bars due to the music. Decent drink list. 4/5 Nel - 16/09/05 The only place to be for true jazz lovers! fantastic venue to put your feet up and kick back, close your eyes and appreciate some amazing talent! Great entertainment every night of the week! Keeps me coming back for more! 5/5
