Home to the remaining Brunswick Street bohemians, Bar Open meanders its way over three levels of typical Fitzroy bar style. All floors are filled with lounge chairs, making it an ideal place for conversation.
On weekends, the second floor is home to live music. This is a very welcoming venue which draws its patrons in with eclectic film events that seem like you've gone round to a mate's place for a video night. And there's marshmallows available for toasting on the open fire.
The homely ambience and the furniture and decorations are typically Brunswick Street retro, although the John F. Kennedy tapestry which hangs opposite a mural dedicated to Leon Trotsky is remarkable.
Another feature is the option of ordering a meal from a neighboring restaurant, which is later brought in. There are lots of nooks and crannies for that discreet chat; the noise level always allows for conversation.
