Launched in 2001, Barfinder is a completely independent, objective guide to Melbourne's night life, written and produced by Melbournians who know just how unique our bar scene is.

Members of the Barfinder team also worked on the groundbreaking book Barometer: the insiders guide to Melbourne's bars.

Listings

Bars listed on Barfinder are done so completely at Barfinder's respected discretion. We don't boast the biggest list of bars and pubs (although over 300 is pretty close), but a list of bars and pubs that you can trust offer something unique, or are simply outstanding.

Locations

Generally, the bars listed on Barfinder are in the Melbourne CBD or the immediate surrounding suburbs ie 'The Melways Red Maps'.

The bar search engine is broken down into 'locations'. There are only two that should need further explination:

City East. This is all bars in, or on the edge of the CBD on the eastern side of Swanston Street ie between Swanston and Exhibition.
City West. This is all bars in, or on the edge of the CBD on the western side of Swanston Street ie between Swanston and Spencer.
