After Honky Tonks closed down, Melbournians were sadly expecting a block of apartments to occupy Dukeboard Place; instead 3rd Class Club opened its doors.
With the Honky Tonks residency to live up to, 3rd Class Club has done well in providing Melbourne with a club that symbolises the current Nu Wave era.
The layout is very similar to its old design, with two separate rooms, separated by a small corridor. The front room has a few seating options and a small outside area for smokers that remains packed throughout the night. In the back room you'll find the bar to the left and the dance floor in the middle of the room. If you manage to squeeze past the dancers, there is a small hidden room displaying a beautiful view of Melbourne through a large glass window.
Although the layout remains similar, the decor has certainly changed as everything is painted black with posters and writing all over the walls, creating a pop artish warehouse feel.
When you venture to 3rd class make sure you try a “rave bag”, which is a plastic bag containing red bull, a shot of Vodka, a shot of Agwa and a glow stick...a very classy touch.
batman - 25/08/08 great place... except for the moisties 0/5 sam - 22/07/08 love me rave bags
love the young box coming through the doors and love the sexy asian bird at the front,
janelle the bartender is a mole look out for her 3/5 Critton - 25/03/08 While other bars & clubs try to mimic one another and try to 'out class' each other... this place keeps it real... Raw, upfront and artistic environment... The music has generally moved away from that electro crap and the quality of crowd is awesome. Good to see something unique in the ol' Melbourne town! 5/5 Heffir - 19/03/08 Great if you are a teenager and have never visited Honky Tonks to know what a real club is like... 1/5 Big Bird - 14/03/08 I love 3rd Class. If you have a few friends, feel like a dance and love mixing with attractive people of the opposite (or same) sex then this place is for you.
And get a Rave Bag. Better than any other bag I've ever had. 5/5
